Annie Christy Announces Candidacy for State Representative

Annie Christy, a former business owner and lifelong advocate for children and families, announced her candidacy today for State Representative for District 123 in Cape Elizabeth.

“Ever-increasing taxes and daily expenses are outrageous. It’s becoming difficult for families living here to make ends meet,” Christy said. “It’s also difficult for businesses to thrive.”

Christy plans to seek tax reductions for families and senior citizens struggling to get by. She will propose structural tax reform, specifically reducing taxes for retirees and pensioners.

Christy also seeks to attract more companies to Maine by making Maine more tax friendly to businesses. New companies also provide good paying jobs which Maine sorely needs. More opportunities will help keep our young people here in Maine, and not moving out of state to find better-paying jobs and a lower cost of living.

As a former business owner, Christy supports local businesses. High taxes and onerous regulations should be eliminated so local businesses can be profitable.

“Maine needs strong legislators who can stand up for our community and our local businesses,” Christy said.

Christy has dedicated much of her career to helping children and families, especially those affected by abuse and domestic violence--a topic the California native is all too familiar with. Because of family issues, she was placed in an orphanage when she was eleven years old.

Christy understands the harm done to our children by keeping our schools closed for far too long. Christy supports our schools and its remarkable teachers and believes in parental rights. She also supports affordable housing.

In California, Christy worked in various management positions. At the District Attorney’s Office, she worked on high-profile cases as the O. J. Simpson and Menendez brothers’ murder trials. She also spearheaded campaigns for its Family Violence Division to prevent child abuse and domestic violence and improve services. As a child advocate, she fought for the rights of children and domestic violence victims, and worked with legislators and local and statewide governmental agencies including the Attorney General’s Office and the Governor’s office to improve policies.

Christy cares about our environment and spearheaded campaigns for Earth Day, the elimination of household hazardous toxic products, and for clean storm water drains.

Christy has also launched campaigns to install speed bumps in residential areas, ban cell phones while driving, and provide safety caps on prescription bottles.

She also established strategic relationships with companies to provide interscholastic college scholarships and to provide awards for community involvement.

Christy moved from Northern California to Maine five years ago. She has a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in Psychology from Mt. Saint Mary’s University in California. She also studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, France.

Christy, a recent widow, has two sisters she adores and a dog named Love.
